Description:

Part of the testimony at the Parker Commission inquiry into the conduct of Sinclair Stevens, who resigned from the post of Minister of Regional Economic Expansion on May 12, 1986. On May 15, 1986, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney appointed Ontario High Court Judge William Parker to head an inquiry into Stevens' business dealings and whether he had violated federal conflict-of-interest guidelines. Public hearings began on July 14, 1986 and ended on February 25, 1987. Parker submitted his report to the federal government on November 25, 1987. The report, tabled in the House of Commons on December 3, 1987, found that Stevens had violated the guidelines.~This includes comments by Ian Binnie, the lawyer for the federal government; Parker Commission lawyer David Scott; Sinclair Stevens' lawyer, John Sopinka; and Jill Bennett.
