As part of the British-American Lend-Lease pact, American destroyers are handed over to the British navy in Halifax, Nova Scotia in exchange for allowing the U.S. to build defence bases in Bermuda and elsewhere. This is a symbol of the good neighbour policy. The destroyers are loaded with supplies, boarded by British sailors, and equipment is examined.
