Casey interviews actor Gordon Pinsent, who comments that it feels great, rather like a graduation, and that theatrically speaking, we need to concentrate on ourselves. Mansbridge and Frum talk about Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Queen Elizabeth II and the Governor General. Duffy talks to young people in the crowd. Next is a ceremony for the Governor General, and a brief history of the landau that brings the Queen to Parliament Hill. The Governor General is shown taking the salute. Guards play God Save the Queen and O Canada. The RCMP, the Queen and Prince Phillip are shown as crowds applaud and cheer. The Governor General and Trudeau greet the Royal Couple. Next are a flypast, the band playing God Save the Queen, a gun salute, the guards presenting arms, the Queen inspecting the guards and the Queen going to the dais to receive the royal salute. O Canada is played.~The ceremonial speeches start with comments by Gerald Regan, who tells everyone what is about to happen. Next are shots of the band and choir, Trudeau, Jean Chrétien, crowds and Trudeau welcoming the Queen and the Prince. Trudeau gives a speech. Next, the Queen, Trudeau, Chrétien and André Ouellet sign the constitution. Huguette Labelle reads the proclamation of the constitution, in English and French. She greets people and unveils a plaque, while Mansbridge gives a history of the East Block. There is a close-up of the signature on the proclamation. Stout interviews Joey Smallwood about Newfoundland joining Canada 35 years before. Casey interviews Bobby Gimby, the creator of the Centennial song Canada. Duffy talks to people who spoke to the Queen and Prince Phillip and who got wet waiting to see the Royal Couple. Halton comments on the speeches by Trudeau and the Queen, with particular reference to their comments about Quebec. Mansbridge and Frum talk about the Snowbirds flight team. Mansbridge, Frum and Halton talk about Trudeau breaking the last colonial link with Britain and about Trudeau's comments that he has no plans to do away with the monarchy.
