Description:

Newsreel footage of His Excellency the Earl of Athlone performing his last public act as Governor General of Canada. He attends the Opening of Parliament. Later, he lays a wreath at the War Memorial in Ottawa and leaves for Washington and then a holiday in Bermuda, before going back to Britain. Footage shows: the Parliament Buildings; Guard of Honour; the Governor General and Princess Alice getting out of their car and being greeted by Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King; the Governor General taking the salute of the guard; Guard of Honour presenting arms; the Governor General, Prince Alice and Mackenzie King leaving Parliament after attending the opening; the Governor General and Princess Alice bidding goodbye; ceremonies at the War Memorial; Vice Regal Party shaking hands with cabinet ministers and Chiefs of Staff; the Governor General and Princess Alice leaving the War Memorial for Rockliffe Airport; ceremony at airport; plane propellers turning and plane taking off.
