This show is divided into two segments. The first half is the story of a Canadian who has been recently extradited to the United States to stand trial on a robbery-murder charge. Johnny Waslenchuk, a convicted bank robber, was on parole in British Columbia when he was accused of robbing a bank in Seattle 10 years earlier. The problem arises from the fact that Waslenchuk's alibi or key witness, an RCMP officer who was with him on the day in question, is too ill to testify. Canadian officials fear that it is impossible for the accused to have a fair trial.~Interviewer Jack Webster talks to the following people: Ernest Craig Nettle, the RCMP officer who was with Waslenchuk when the robbery took place; Errol Horswell, the defence lawyer; Brock Adams, the special prosecutor; Larry Hanson, an RCMP officer who believes that Waslenchuk is innocent; and T.A. Dome, a Vancouver lawyer acting for the Waslenchuk family.~The second half of the show consists of an interview by Patrick Watson of Cecil Harmsworth King, owner of 3 daily papers and two Sunday papers with circulation exceeding 30 million. Watson discusses the role of the press in government, in changing attitudes towards sex, etc.
