Public Service Unions call for a general strike in Quebec.~Mississauga Disaster. One hundred thousand Missassauga residents spend another night in evacuation centers. Film report shows the efforts of cleaning experts still trying to release remaining chlorine gas from tanker. Roy McMurtry, Attorney General of Ontario, comments.~Iran Hostages. The diplomatic battle to free American hostages in Iran now turns into full-scale economic war to the Iran announcing a decision to withdraw all assets from American banks and President Carter ordering a freeze on Iranian accounts. A film report in Teheran shows Iran's Foreign Minister Abol Bani Sadr at a press conference and anti-American demonstrators observing fast in front of U.S. embassy. Report that the former Shah of Iran will leave New York city's hospital for Mexico.~Earthquake. A strong earthquake strikes eighteen villages in North-East Iran.~Trade. Statistics Canada releases new figures revealing a better trade balance for Canada.~Energy Policy. Friction between Ottawa and Alberta continue at the energy policy summit in Saskatoon. Prime Minister Clark and Premier Lougheed comment after the meeting.~Pipeline Project. The National Energy Board wraps up three weeks of hearings in Vancouver on the Canadian plan to bring oil south from Alaska by tankers and pipelines crossing Canadian territory. A film report shows a Trans Mountain Company meeting with the Energy Board in an effort to win Canadian approval; however, pipeline plan hits heavy opposition from Canadian environmental groups.~Power Plant. The Saskatchewan government goes ahead with another power plant near the Montana border despite objections by American farmers.~Manitoba Indians. The Manitoba Indian Brotherhood's severe financial difficulty leads to the firing of its president and lay-offs of employees. A report from Winnipeg includes comments by Lawrence Whitehead (former president of M.I.B.) and Isaac Beaulieu (Chief's spokesman).~Penal System. Federal correction officers criticize Canada's penal system. A special report looks at Canada's prison system, specifically the maximum security prison at Millhaven, Ontario where signs of improvement have been reported and credited to the new warden, Hank Neufeld. Comments are made by Neufeld, Roger Caron (author and ex-convict), and inmates.~Family Allowance. The Minister Health, David Crombie, announces no changes to the family allowance program until the end of 1980.~Bus Strike. Montreal commuters face problems as militant bus drivers have been stopping buses on twenty routes, forcing passengers to get off. Drivers are upset with the union, which failed to arrange a meeting with the provincial labour minister.~Across Canada. Brief local reports on Canada with film clips, including: an explosion at Queen's University caused by the blow-up of a cylinder containing lethal acid; the Canadian ship, The Arctic, makes navigation history at Churchill, Manitoba; Calgary senior citizens belonging to self-supporting group by non-charitable activities, demonstrate against the government's prohibition for them to raise money; and Liberal members in Vancouver are upset at Party leader Pierre Trudeau's avoiding an important meeting by going to a New York disco club. Includes photo of Trudeau at disco, comments by Art Phillips (Liberal, Vancouver Centre) and NDP Leader, Ed Broadbent, who brings up the incident at House of Commons.
