Program in a television series about ethnic diversity in Canada. This program is about the Harry Jerome Awards, which honour young black people who display exceptional talent in the areas of sports, the arts, community service and academics. The following award winners are interviewed: Alton C. "Al" Parker of Windsor, Ontario, brothers David and Darrin Lowe and Lorelei Eccleston. Parker began holding a picnic for black children in a low-income area in Windsor in 1966 and the party has been held ever since. David Lowe is being honoured for his acadmic achievements and Darren Lowe for his achievements as a hockey player with the Canadian Olympic team and with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lorelei Eccleston is an award-winning pianist. Also interviewed is Hamlin Grange, one of the founders of the awards and the program director of the Black Business and Professional Association, which sponsors the awards. Included are clips from CBC television of the awards ceremony and of archival footage of the late Harry Jerome competing in track events. A history of the awards is given. There is footage of Eccleston playing the piano.
