One of a series of television programs about ethnicity in Canada. This is the first of a three-part series about life behind the Iron Curtain. Disinformation is a term that describes the Soviet use of propaganda in the mass media and other forms of communication. Examples of disinformation are discussed by guests Christina Isajiw, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Council for Human Rights, and Genya Intrator, Co-chairperson and one of the co-founders of the Inter-religious Human Rights Task Force. The Inter-religious task force for human rights and religious freedoms in the Soviet Union is a Canadian-based organization dedicated to informing Canadians about human rights abuses in the Soviet Union. Also included is a film made secretly by a former prisoner in the Soviet Union, Abraham [Shifrin] and depicting human rights violations. Military propaganda, mock trials, control of the press, the imprisonment of Soviet Jews and the treatment of political prisoners are cited as examples of disinformation and mistreatment.
