Television documentary film portraying Canada's history in the 1900s by means of archival footage and personal narratives of old-timers. Examining the life of early settlers in the Maritimes, THE MEN OF THE DEEPS, lookes at those who made their livelihood fishing cod as well as the mining communities of Cape Breton, who risked their lives digging for coal in the dark undergrounds of the mines. THE MEN OF THE FOREST looks at the Fraser River of British Columbia including life in the logging camps and the fur and fishing trade. THE OLD SODBUSTERS depicts life in the open planes of the prairies showing wheat harvests, the settlement of the North West Mounted Police in 1879, and the hardships of the depression years. Noteworthy sequences include: the free homesteaders; the versatility of the horse; CP Railway forever bringing new arrivals to the land; the Boer War; gold prospecting; and the leadership of Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier. <60mn>
