Inscribed recto "M.H. 1848" in the lower-left of the drawing, with names inscribed below the figures in the drawing in pencil. Also inscribed recto "Delightful return from a delightful pic nic / Drinkwater ancestors going through the bush 1838" in pencil. Inscribed verso "Hallens going through the Bush 1835" in pencil and "A sketch of my ancestors, the Hallen Family Going Through the Bush near their home / John Drinkwater" in ink.
