First part of radio program. Arthur Roebuck, MP, former Ontario Labour Minister, chairs a panel of speakers consisting of Miss Constance Hayward, Secretary of the Canadian National Committee on Refugees; John Buckley, Vice President of the Trades and Labour Congress of Canada; and a Ukrainian immigrant, who discusses the topic of post-war immigration into Canada. Pierre Walbrecq, International Labour Office, speaks from Montreal on the possibilities of immigration movements from Europe.~Discussion of Canada's ability to accommodate refugees. Buckley emphasizes labour's opposition to flooding Canada with cheap, surplus labour.~Emphasis placed on selecting immigrants whose skills and ideologies are compatible with Canadian economy and politics.~Current Canadian policy regarding European immigrants is discussed. Speakers express dismay upon learning from Roebuck about the small number of Jewish immigrants accepted to Canada in 1942.~Labour's opposition to assisted immigration stated by Buckley.~Discussion on the need for government to supply refugees with jobs if private industry cannot. Development of the St. Lawrence River, and Canada's north, as well as the building of a trans-Canada highway are suggested.
