Young people who have left home to live on the streets are the subject of this program. Reporting from Edmonton, Ashleigh Banfield describes lives supported by theft, prostitution and selling drugs, noting that within two days of taking to the streets, almost 100 percent of the youths will be sexually assaulted. She interviews a young man and woman living on the streets about why they prefer this life to going home and Michael Farris, Director of Edmonton's Youth Emergency Shelter.~A studio panel discussion chaired by Terry Lynne Meyer includes DeWayne Brown, a Crossroads Outreach Worker, Michael Farris, Director of the Youth Emergency Shelter and Dr. Jim Canniff, Psychologist. Panelists describe the dangerous, disease-prone street culture that forces young people to develop new survival skills, the false glamour of prostitution and the 'vultures' who are always looking for new recruits.~Additional guests on Monday Forum are Karla Nikolai from the Youth In Care Network, who explains why she left home at age six and why she prefers the streets to the child welfare system, 'Danny', who says he would rather risk being killed on the streets than get hurt by someone he loves, Staff Sergeant Hugh Richards of the Edmonton Police Service who discusses the role of the police department, and the parent of a child who was murdered on the streets. <30mn>
