This documentary focuses on Hong Kong, a city under the "Shadow of the Dragon" as it waits for Communist China to resume control in 1997, when its ninety-nine year lease to the British government expires. Clive Jackson reports from Hong Kong. Western sophistication is apparent in footage of Hong Kong highrises, expanding corporations and real estate, contrasting with footage of sweat shops, illegal backstreet games and dense accommodations reminding the viewer of its Eastern roots.~Clive Jackson also takes viewers to Tucn Mun Detention Camp in Hong, where Vietnamese boat people are detained with little privacy or room to move, in incredibly hot, smelly and squalid conditions. Vietnamese refugee Trin Hao and detention camp manager William Lau are interviewed.~Archival footage of protesters in Hong Kong at the time of the 1989 massacre in China's Tiananmen Square and of the border between China and Hong Kong symbolize the latter's fear of communist takeover.~Interviewees include Rick Shih, now living in British Columbia, who says he and his family emigrated to ensure freedom for the children. <30mn>
