Documentary film illustrating the specially adapted telephones currently under development for use by handicapped and disabled people. [Joy Cawdrey], an occupational therapist at the New York Medical Centre, talks with disabled patients and counsels them on the specially modified telephones available for their use. Shown is a high school football game and a young girl who suffers from hearing loss using a telephone with amplified volume. Includes sequences on: deaf people using modified telephones at work; a bedridden young boy using the School at Home service over the telephone; a man using an electronic larnyx that generates sound waves to communicate; a blind person demonstrating automatic dialing telephones; and a person in a wheelchair illustrating the inconvenience of a conventional phone booth as well as the newly-designed coin telephones. <12mn>
