Keyserlingk, Robert, 1905-1991 : Robert Wendelin Keyserlingk comes from a Baltic family settled in Latvia and Lithuania. He was born in St. Petersburg in 1905, the son of Count Henry Keyserlingk, commander in the former Imperial Russian Navy. After the outbreak of the Revolution in Russia, the family fled to Japan.

Dr Keyserlingk attended the St. Joseph's College at Yokohama and the Canadian Academy at Kobe, Japan. He was in Shanghai from 1920 where he began work as a shipping clerk.

In 1925 Keyserlingk came to Canada where he graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in economics and political science. He was married in 1931 to Sigrid von der Recke. They had six children.

Keyserlingk joined the United Press in Berlin in 1930 and in 1932 was appointed manager for Switzerland. By 1933, he was made manager for Northern Europe with headquarters in Berlin and in 1934 was appointed managing director for Europe of the European (London) Department of the United Press. In 1937 Keyserlingk returned to Canada to take over the British United Press (a subsidiary of the United Press operating throughout the British Empire of those days) as managing Director. He remained in that post until1963, with several years interruption (1949-1956) when he was editor in chief and publisher of the international affairs Catholic weekly "The Ensign". From 1949 to the 1970's Keyserlingk was founder and President of Palm Publishers, Montreal. His publications include "Unfinished History" 1947, "Fathers of Europe" 1972, "Dragon's Wrath" 1982, "Across Many Oceans" 1984, and Ed. of Igor Gouzenko's "The Iron Curtain". Keyserlingk founded the Baltic Canadian Relief Society in 1946.

In 1954, the University of Ottawa conferred on Keyserlingk an honorary doctorate in law. The Chilean Government bestowed upon him the Order of Merit with the rank of Commander. Dr Keyserkingk was also a Knight of the Sovereign and Military Order of Malta.

Dr. Keyserlingk died 1991 in Vancouver, B.C.
