Series consists of material created during Paul Manson's period as Chief of the Defence Staff. It consists of textual records, photograph albums, photographs and plaques. The correspondence is both demi-official in nature as well as personal. The CDS demi-official correspondence has been numbered. A list created in the CDS offices accompanies the numbered correspondence. There is also retirement correspondence, social correspondence, the diary of Margaret Manson prepared during the CDS years, speech material and letters of congratulation upon appointment.

The speeches are organized under the following headings: Associations, Clubs and Institutes, Staff Colleges and Schools, and Graduation and Dedication ceremonies. Brief listings of speeches accompany the speech material.

There are also time planning notebooks with both brief notations of appointments and also detailed entries for the period 1986 to 1988.

The photographic material consists of albums, usually presentation albums, as well as separate photographs. Plaques were awared to Paul Manson both in Canada and in other countries.
