The voyages of the Hospital Mission Ships "Columbia", "John Antle", "Rendezvous" and "Gwa-Yee" which provide medical, religious, and social ministrations to 600 European, First Nation, Japanese, and Chinese families on the British Columbia coast from the Strait of Georgia to Queen Charlotte Strait. Medical care, surgery and recovery at St. Mary's Hospital Pender Harbour and St. George's Hospital Alert Bay are documented as are services, christenings, communions, weddings, festivals and funerals at the five mission churches and coastal villages. Aspects of logging including float houses, net fishing for salmon, canneries with First Nation and Chinese workers. Japanese fishing fleet prior to evacuation, First Nation totem and mortuary poles, the Wolf Clan soccer team, dug-out canoes, farming and trapping are seen.~Ships include the "Catala", "Chelosin" and "Sky Pilot", freighters, seine boats and scows. Military activity shows the Royal Canadian Navy, The Canadian Scottish Regiment, the 15th (Vancouver) Coast Brigade, Royal Canadian Artillery from the Yorke Island defences and a visit by the Governor General, the 1st Baron Tweedsmuir (John Buchan) in service dress to the "Columbia" in Vancouver in 1938.~Communities include: Alert Bay; Bold Point Quadra Island; Bull Harbour Hope Island; Camp Artaban; Campbell River; Cape Mudge; Egmont Sechelt Inlet; Fort Rupert; Glendale Cannery Knight's Inlet; Grant Bay Quadra Island; Halfmoon Bay; Jervis Inlet; Kelsey Bay; Kingcome Inlet; Loughborough Inlet; Manson's Landing Cortez Island; Minstrel Island; Owen Bay; Pender Bay; Port Neville; Princess Louisa Inlet; Quathiaski Cove; Read Island; Rock Bay; Salmon Arm Sechelt Inlet; Sayward; Simon Sound; Squirrel Cove; Squitty Bay Lasqueti Island; Village Island; Whaletown; Wyatt Bay.~Families and personalities documented include: Arrowsmith; Auchinleck; Bayfield; Browning; Christmas; DePencier; Dibben; Feishman; French; Godfrey; Greene; Halliday; Hamilton; Hansen; Lang-Connald; Lang; Leask; Mann; Obrien; Robertson; Ryall; Smythe; Stringer; Telford; Venables; Vivash.

Booklets containing typed narration by the missionaries were extracted from the accession file and added to the fonds as archival records on 2024-01-25. The archival reference number is R-17116. Note that the description they provide does not cover the entirety of the film material.~7. The following description, provided by staff, was revised to address outdated and/or harmful descriptive language on 2024-03-14.
