Pelletier, Alec, 1917-2000 : Alexandrine Leduc-Pelletier naît à Montréal le 22 mars 1917 du mariage d'Agnes Phelan, d'origine irlandaise, et de Joseph Leduc, marchand de Montréal. Elle fait ses études primaires dans le quartier Hochelaga, ses études en lettres-sciences au pensionnat d'Hochelaga et au pensionnat de Saint-Lambert chez les religieuses des Saints-Noms-de-Jésus-et-de-Marie. Elle poursuit des études commerciales à l'Académie Bourget de Montréal.
De 1936 à 1945, elle participe activement au mouvement de la Jeunesse étudiante catholique (JEC). Elle devient secrétaire générale de la Jeunesse étudiante catholique féminine (JECF). Elle est responsable du secteur ouest et anglophone de Montréal et est déléguée dans les collèges américains pour y jeter les bases du mouvement. Elle se lie d'amitié avec d'autres responsables catholiques ou étudiants dont certains deviennent des politiciens, des journalistes, des universitaires. Elle publie aussi, pendant cette période, quatre ouvrages de fiction pour les enfants.
En 1939, elle fait la rencontre de Gérard Pelletier, alors secrétaire national de la JEC. Ils se marient le 27 février 1943. Le couple s'installe ensuite à la maison où se trouve le quartier général des Compagnons de Saint-Laurent et partage un étage avec un couple d'amis, Claire et André Mackay. Ils ont alors l'occasion de côtoyer le milieu théâtral, journalistique, politique, de la radio et de la télévision.
En janvier 1946, Alec accompagne son mari Gérard à Genève où il est nommé responsable canadien pour l'Entraide universitaire mondiale, un fonds de secours pour les étudiants victimes de la guerre. Pendant que Gérard voyage en Europe pour son travail, Alec rédige des contes pour l'émission radiophonique "Samedi-Jeunesse" tout en élevant leur première fille, Anne-Marie, née en 1945.
À leur retour d'Europe en juin 1947, le couple s'installe à Montréal où naissent Louise (1947), Jean (1948) et Andrée (1951). Alec Pelletier continue d'écrire pour la radio. Elle écrit, en collaboration avec Gérard Pelletier, "Radio-parents" et "Affaires de famille", programmes éducatifs sur les problèmes de l'éducation des enfants et sur leurs rapports avec les adultes; la chronique de l'émission féminine "Entre nous mesdames" au cours des années 1950. À l'avènement de la télévision, elle écrit de manière continue entre 1952 et 1962 : les dialogues du grand-père [André] Cailloux qui causait avec la marionnette Frisson de Colline (personnage inventé par Alec Pelletier et fabriqué par Edmundo Chiodini) dans "Le grenier aux images", émission hebdomadaire d'une demi-heure pour les enfants; les scénarios de la série d'aventures "Le trèfle à quatre feuilles" et du téléroman pour adolescents "Demain Dimanche" devenu par la suite "Jeunes visages" qui raconte l'histoire d'une famille aux prises avec les problèmes de la vie quotidienne. Cette dernière émission gagne le trophée Frigon de la meilleure série dramatique à la télévision en 1959, en 1960 et en 1961. Durant les années 1960, elle participe à la recherche et écrit quantité de scénarios pour les émissions "Le bel âge" (radio) et "Le sel de la semaine" (télévision). Elle participe aussi à la rédaction de quelques épisodes télévisés des émissions "Music-Hall" (1957) et "La boîte à surprise" (1962, 1965) et à la traduction et adaptation de la pièce "Les papiers d'Aspern" d'Henry James pour le "Téléthéâtre de Radio-Canada" (1965). Toutes ces émissions sont produites par Radio-Canada.
Alors que son mari occupe des fonctions politiques à Ottawa, Alec Pelletier préfère habiter Montréal où elle veille à l'éducation des enfants qui ont souvent été sa source d'inspiration pour l'écriture des émissions destinées à la jeunesse, aux adolescents ainsi qu'aux parents. Lorsque Gérard Pelletier est nommé ambassadeur à Paris, elle décide cette fois de le suivre. Elle entretient toujours ses liens avec le milieu de la scénarisation. Ainsi, elle fait la recherche et écrit les scénarios pour une série d'émissions sur les racines des franco-ontariens, en collaboration avec le réalisateur de film Tony Robinow, pour la Télévision éducative de l'Ontario.
Alec Pelletier travaille aussi comme recherchiste, traductrice et scénariste pour le cinéma au cours des années 1960. Elle travaille sur divers projets à l'Office national du film dont les films "La fleur de l'âge. Les adolescentes" (1964), coproduction France-Italie-Japon-Canada (Michel Brault, metteur en scène pour le Canada) dans lequel l'actrice Geneviève Bujold fait ses débuts et "Le festin des morts" (1965) du cinéaste Fernand Dansereau, film sur la vie des missionnaires jésuites en Nouvelle-France dont le personnage du père Brébeuf est interprété par l'acteur français Alain Cuny. Le film est primé au Palmarès du film canadien de 1966. Alec Pelletier travaille aussi au scénario du film du réalisateur américain Francis Thompson, "We are young", présenté au pavillon C.P.R.-Cominco à l'Expo 67 de Montréal.
En plus de ses projets pour la radio, la télévision et pour le cinéma, elle participe, en collaboration avec Marcelle Racine et Pierre Savignac, à la programmation et animation du pavillon de la jeunesse de l'Expo 67; écrit des nouvelles pour la "Revue moderne" et "Châtelaine"; donne des conférences.
En 1981, Alec Pelletier quitte Paris pour New York où son mari est nommé ambassadeur du Canada aux Nations-Unis. De retour à Montréal en 1984, elle est affectée, peu de temps après, par une longue maladie qui l'emporte le 11 janvier 2000.
