Mills, Alan, 1912-1977 : In 1947, Alan Mills (born Albert Miller) interrupted an 18-year career in journalism (chiefly with the Montreal Gazette daily newspaper) to join John Goss's vocal quintet, the London Singers. His programmes and recordings for the CBC (including Canadian Folk Songs: A Centenary Collection) as well as his performances with violinist Jean Carignan at festivals served to establish his reputation as an excellent folk singer. He also performed as an actor in radio plays, commercials, and a number of National Film Board productions.
