Sub-series mainly consists of letters to Eleanora Hallen from her mother, sister Sarah, aunts Mary and Helen, cousin Mary, and other family members. Several letters date from Eleanora's childhood, both pre- and post-emigration. Drafts of letters written by Eleanora in the 1840s cover various subjects such as the birth of her sister's baby, the activities of Colonel Jarvis (Superintendent of Indian Affairs), and a visit to an Aboriginal village. Also found is a note of farewell from Eleanora's cousin just prior to the Hallen family's departure for America. Topics discussed in these letters deal mainly with domestic and community affairs, including news of friends, relatives, and neighbours; outings; gardening; fashions; church; and health.

Also included in this sub-series is a poem composed by Eleanora during her childhood entitled "On a Dandy".
