Forsyth, W.O. (Wesley Octavius), 1859-1937 : Born in Markham Township, near Toronto, Ontario, Wesley Octavius Forsyth studied in Toronto with Edward Fisher, and then from 1886 to 1888 attended Leipzig Conservatory. Upon his return to Toronto, he taught piano and theory in various institutions, including the Metropolitan Conservatory of Music (1895-1912), which he founded and of which he was sole principal. As a composer, Forsyth mainly left pieces for piano and melodies. In 1968, the University of Toronto instituted the W.O. Forsyth Memorial Scholarship.
