Fonds consists of material from Frederick Ernest Cunnings' career as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force during his time with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan from 1941 to 1945. It consists of one unbound album of 133 photographs documenting friends and colleagues, aircraft and architecture, military activities and leisure time. Most photographs in the album were taken by Frederick Ernest Cunnings. Also included in this fonds is one digitally-reproduced portrait of Frederick Ernest Cunnings in military uniform, as well as one RCAF Flying Log Book detailing Cunnings' activities at #3 B&G, #7 SFTS, #6 B&G, #8 B&G and #7 B&G.

Cunnings, Frederick Ernest, ca. 1908- : Frederick Ernest Cunnings was an Armourer & Armament instructor B&G in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan from 1941 to 1945. After enlisting and being sworn in at Saskatoon on January 16, 1941, the 33 year-old RCAF Grade A was indoctrinated into service life at #1 Manning depot in Toronto, Ontario. He later served at the following units: AAS (Air Armament School), Trenton, Ontario; AAS, Mountain View, Ontario; #3 B&G (Bombing and Gunnery School), McDonald Air Station, Manitoba; #7 SFTS (Service Flying Training School), Fort MacLeod, Alberta; #6 B&G, Mountain View, Ontario; #8 B&G, Lethbridge, Alberta; #7 B&G, Paulson, Manitoba; #3 SFTS, Calgary; #10 RD (Repair Depot), Calgary; #9 B&G, Lethbridge, Alberta; #10 SFTS, Dauphin, Manitoba; #13 and #35 SFTS, North Battleford, Saskatchewan; #36 EFTS (Elementary Flight Training School), Pearce, Alberta; #15 SFTS, Claresholm, Alberta; #19 SFTS, Vulcan, Alberta; #36 SFTS, Penhold, Alberta; and #34 SFTS, Medicine Hat, Alberta.

During his career with the BCATP, Frederick Ernest Cunnings received a promotion from AC2 (Aircraftman, 2nd class) to Flight Sergeant (NCO).
