Series offers some insight into Macdonald's work as Minister, September 1970 - January 1972.
When Macdonald left DND, his correspondence as Minister remained with the department - only one box is here. Additional DND material is in the Scrapbooks series (vols 71 - 72), which follows; his speeches when he was DND Minister, are in volume 54 and 55. Some National Defence documents were brought forward and are now throughout later series that were re-filed by EMR subject numbers: DND records are 128-N1 subject files of the Early Records Re-classified by the Energy Mines and Resources Subject Number series (vols 122 - 123, eight files) and of the Energy Mines and Resources series (vol 168, one file). See also vols 40 - 41, and the last two files of vol 249.

This series includes copies of Macdonald's outgoing correspondence, filed chronologically for 1970 - 1971 in three parallel groups. Similar outgoing correspondence for October 1973 to November 1977 is in the Correspondence sub-series, volumes 319 and 320. The series also has DND reports submitted to Macdonald, and documentation of his visit to Woodstock, Vermont for the Bilderberg Conference in 1971. He attended ten Bilderberg Conferences, 1971, 1974, and 1979 - 1986. Records of the other nine conferences are in the Bilderberg series, vols 327 - 331.
