He talks about the exceptional quality of the writing staff at the Globe including Stewart Lyon, editor, and J. E. Atkinson, who eventually bought the Toronto Star. He also talks about W. J. Jaffray, owner of the Globe. Recalling a controversial trial in Toronto, he discusses Amelius Jarvis, a prominent financier, his son, as well as Peter Smith, the provincial treasurer of Ontario. Turning to Maclean's Magazine, Irwin recalls some of the more controversial articles he wrote including the "brain drain" of Canadian university graduates to the United States. Other editorials include a feature article on the low salaries of technicians in the public service and the question of public ownership of railroads. Irwin closes with a discussion of the free-lance writers at Maclean's.Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
