Isaac in his capacity as Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Canada, as judge of the Supreme Court of Ontario and as a head of various commissions of inquiries outside Canada such as the Grenada Constitutional Review Commission and the West Kingston Commission of Enquiry in Jamaica. There are also some records related to his law practice in Saskatchewan during the decade of 1960. The records contain mainly correspondence, handwritten notes, reports, research and working documents. The archival fonds also includes photographs which are mostly related to Julius A. Isaac's activities as Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Canada. Images of awards received by Julius A. Isaac during his career are also available in digital format. They were used for an exhibition related to the career of Julius A. Isaac.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Isaac, Julius A, 1928- : Julius Alexander Isaac was born in 1928 in Grenada. He was educated at the University of Toronto (1958) and the University of Windsor, 1994. In 1960, he was admitted to the Ontario Bar; in 1962, to the Saskatchewan Bar; in 1965, to the Grenada Bar and in 1981, to the Alberta Bar. He practised law in Ontario and Saskatchewan in the 1960s. Former Legal Advisor of the Economic Development Corporation, Saskatchewan. Julius Isaac was appointed magistrate in Grenada for one year. He worked for the Department of Justice from 1971 to 1989. He has been a Queen's Counsel since 1975. Since that time he has taken several positions as prosecutor and counsel. He was Director of the Edmonton Regional Office and Assistant Deputy Attorney General. In 1989, he was made a judge of the Supreme Court of Ontario, and on October 29,1991, judge of the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada. He was appointed Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Canada from December 24, 1991 to September 1, 1999 at which time he became Supernumerary Judge.Source:Private -
