Out-takes of a documentary on John Push-ka-Gan and his wife and family of ten, Ojibway, making a birch bark canoe. Scenes include: two First Nations men felling trees; collecting birch bark; shaving and shaping ribs; shaping ribs with part of legs (knees mostly); shaping the frame; placing it in water; scraping and cleaning birch bark; First Nations girl in background; placing bark under frame; placing stones to keep them in place; inserting pegs to hold the frame together; three women; woman inserting spruce roots to tie bark to frame; inserting spigots; collecting roots; boiling roots; wife stripping fibers out of roots; removing rocks and frame; leveling bark to top of frame; women inserting stitches into bark; heating spruce gum (resin) to seal joints; tarred bottom of canoe and inserting stripping to cover birch bark using one hand spoke shave; heating spruce gum to mold it; solo test drive; and women sewing blanket stitch and running stitch. <19mn 39s>
