Attached: Indian weddings on Vancouver Island seventy years ago were colorful [sic] affairs..
Here is depicted the young bride accompanied by her attendants, all wearing new, red Hudson's Bay blankets, as they approach the decorated canoe drawn up on the beach below. The blanket woven of mountain goats hair thrown over his European costume. Some of the guests wear cedar cloth garments, some are dressed in deer skin, and others appear in conventional white man's clothing..
A spirit of rejoicing animates the scene in front of the great house typical of the period..
This reproduction was acquired at the same time and from the same source as 5 other offset lithographs which depict original paintings by Mildred Valley Thornton. Each was accessioned individually. See acc. nos. 1949-013 thorugh 1949-018..
