Home movie of Posts along James Bay and Hudson Bay 1951 to 1954, also 1952 ice break-up on Moose River. Scenes include : Aerial view flying over Rupert House (Waskaganish) Quebec, 80 miles east of Moose Factory in winter, and unpainted houses built by the Federal Government; Anglican Mission, Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) buildings, and recreation hall of Mrs. Watt, wife of the HBC Manager who started a quota system for beaver trapping; family arriving by dog team and washing on line in winter; Anglican priest, HBC staff and Nurse Miss Anderson; Rupert House (Waskaganish) in summer; HBC residence at Albany with manager, housekeeper, and children; Attawapiskat from air and ground in summer, tents where Indigenous people lived in summer, Roman Catholic Mission and HBC compound; medical student Milton Francis; Fort George from the air, showing the Anglican Mission, the HBC compound and the Roman Catholic Mission; the nursing station, then Faith Sheppard, a missionary's daughter; Nurse Kay Keith and Canon Sheppard; Dr. McKone picking up a small Indigenous boy dressed in rabbit skins; houses at Fort George built and painted by local Indigenous people for the elderly, with the assistance of the Roman Catholic Mission; Port Harrison (Inukjuak) Quebec, nurse and two Inuit helpers or aides, evacuation of girl bitten by dogs; Fort George; Moose Factory and the Moose Factory Indian Hospital; view from roof of hospital of residences for doctors and Indian Superintendent, looking southeast in the direction of the east branch of Moose River, blocked with ice at spring break-up; Anglican residential school for Indigenous children brought each year from Mistassini, Quebec; Anglican church in the distance; surface erosion due to rain drainage; water intake pipe; ice waiting to break up; bull-dozer filling in holes of surface erosion; testing force of water from fire hose at back of hospital; ice that has broken up and jammed against the river bank; ice moving and forming a clearing channel in south channel; part of the mass of ice remains against the river bank protecting it from being eroded; ice masses along bank float away as water rises, revealing water erosion of the soft sandy river bank. <22mn 10s>

1. Subject description provided by Dr. Barclay McKone in 1992.~2. Title given by Dr. McKone in subject description notes is “POSTS ALONG JAMES BAY AND HUDSON BAY 1951 TO '54, ALSO 1952 RIVER BREAK-UP.”~3. Milton Francis, later a doctor practising in Timmins, Ontario, is the big sandy-haired man in front of the canoe, and is also seen putting on his tie later in the film.~4. Construction of a dyke was started in 1954 to protect the river bank seen eroding in this film.~5. Further contextual information about Dr. McKone's time in Moose Factory can be found in his manuscript titled “Moose Factory Indian Hospital,” held by the Trent University Archives.
