This wqatercolour was offered for sale to the Public Archives in September 1945 by Mr. Alistair Mathews, Rare Book, Manuscripts, and Drawings and Engravings dealer from Swanage, Dorset, England through Miss D.G. Godfrey of the PRO for the price of £ 12.10d. The work was acquired on 13 October 1945.

Previous custodial history is unknown.
