Canadian Opera Company : The most important opera company in Canada since 1960, the Canadian Opera Company evolved from the establishment in 1946 of the Royal Conservatory Opera School of Toronto. The Opera Festival of February 1950 at the Royal Alexandra Theatre marked the true beginning of the company, which took the name of the Canadian Opera Company in 1958 and obtained its letters patent in 1960.
