Newsreel footage of a ceremony on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario during which the British American Ambulance Corps donates nine ambulances to the Royal Air Force. They were driven from New York by 13 female drivers of the Women's Voluntary Services of Huntingdon, New York. The gift is accepted by Mrs. L.D. McKean, wife of Air Vice-Marshall McKean. The Right Honourable Malcolm MacDonald, British High Commissioner, expresses the gratitude of the British people. The footage consists of a longer roll shot with a Bell and Howell camera, followed by a shorter roll shot by an Eyemo camera. The shorter roll contains similar scenes to the longer roll. Footage shows: various long shots as the nine ambulances arrive on Parliament Hill and form up in V formation; close-up of the drivers who get out of the vehicles and stand at attention in front of the ambulances; top shot of the V formation; angle shot of line of the women drivers; Royal Canadian Air Force drivers march in to take over on behalf of the RAF; close-up of the American women drivers and the Royal Canadian Air Force drivers in line and then shaking hands, in a symbolic turning over of the ambulances to the RAF; close-up of an RCAF driver smiling as he sits in the driver's seat of one of the ambulances; line of ambulances being driven away with the RCAF band leading; close-up of rear of one of the ambulances with its doors open; two RCAF members close the doors and get in the front seat; and close-up of RAF crest on side of ambulance. The Eyemo roll begins with a close-up of Mr. Ruxton, co-founder of the British American Ambulance Corps, making a speech to present the ambulances to Mrs. McKean; they shake hands; angle shot close-ups of the women drivers from the Women's Voluntary Service; close-up of the Right Honourable Malcolm MacDonald, British High Commissioner, at the microphone; angle shot on line-up of women drivers; Mrs. McKean inspecting the women drivers and shaking some of their hands; and top shot of crowd of civilians inspecting one of the ambulances.

1. Subject description is based on Associated Screen News Limited Caption sheet.~2. Annotation on caption sheet indicates lavender print was shipped to London on 2 September 1941 and that dupe neg with music and commentary by Lowell Thomas was shipped to Canada, apparently for Volume 23.~3. Note on nitrate index card indicates that the shorter roll was the African version and the caption sheet annotation also refers to footage for Africa, possibly South Africa.~4. N-3617 contains the cuts (outs) as well as the silent edited final newsreel version (full frame except for the composite head title). N-3618 is the composite final edited version only.
