The fonds contains records illustrating the musical career of W.H. Anderson: compositions and musical arrangements, many in the form of song collections; correspondence; notebooks; concert programmes; press clippings; poster and other promotional material; photographs of Central Church Choir (Winnipeg), W.H. Anderson and members of his family; sound recordings of vocal ensemble concerts on the English network of the CBC.

Anderson, W. H. (William Henry), 1882-1955 : W.H. Anderson began his musical career in the city of his birth, London, England. Until the age of 28, he sang as a tenor in London churches and performed in a few opera roles. In 1910 he had to interrupt his singing career for health reasons. He then emigrated to Canada, settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he was employed as a singing teacher, choirmaster and composer. He composed songs (over 150), canticles, and hymns (over 40) which have been published in Canada and abroad. He is the author of numerous arrangements of folk songs. At times he used the pseudonyms Hugh Garland and Michael Bilenko. In addition to his musical activities, Anderson worked as a draughtsman for Canadian National Railways.
