A collection of 10 original editorial cartoons, by various Canadian artists, most of which have been published and/or syndicated in major newspapers across Canada. The collection satirizes and/or lampoons various persons, issues or events associated with the latter political career of The Right Hon. Jean-Luc Pépin, specifically his appointments as the Chairman of the Anti-Inflation Board (1975-1977); the Co-chairman of the Task Force on Canadian Unity (1977-1979) and as Minister of Transport, in the Trudeau Government (1980-1983).. The various personages, issues or events depicted in the collection include the following: (Political and/or public personages) Donald Johnston; René Lévesque; Sir John A. Macdonald; Allan J. Maceachen; Joe Morris; Jean-Luc Pépin; Pierre Elliot Trudeau; Eugene Whelan. - (Political Issues/Events) the stalemate between the Canadian business community and the Anti-Inflation Board (cartoon by Trevor Hutchings); the Canadian Labour Congress versus the Anti-Inflation Board (cartoon by Peter Kuch); the René Lévesque Government's reaction to the Anti-Inflation Board (cartoon by Tom Innes); public reaction to the proposed relocation of Canadian Pacific's Winnipeg railyard (cartoon by Philip Mallette); the Québec Separatist reaction to the report of the Task Force on Canadian Unity / the Pépin-Robarts report (cartoon by Roland Berthiaume); the western Canadian opposition to the proposed changes in the "Crow Rate" (cartoon by Philip Mallette); Jean-Luc Pépin, Minister of a multi-faceted Department of Transport (cartoon by Ray Stone); the 1980 re-election of the Trudeau Government (cartoon by Andy Donato); Canadian opposition to the streamlining of the Via Rail network (cartoon by Josh Beutel); the loss of the unifying link of Canadian Trans-Continental Via Rail passenger service (cartoon by Josh Beutel).
Included with the accession is one P.M.T. print, taken from an original, ca. 1977, French language cartoon by Jean-Pierre Girerd, entitled "Unité Canadienne / Mission impossible". The subject matter of this cartoon refers to Jean-Luc Pépin's appointment as Co-chairman of the Task Force on Canadian Unity. A translation of the French language statement, for Pépin, in this work reads: "I will do my utmost so that it works - just like my Anti-Inflation Commission".
