A broadcast celebrating the premiere of Sigmund Romberg's film, THIS IS THE ARMY, at the Tita Theatre, Whitehorse, Yukon. J. Frank Willis, the host, describes the purpose in choosing Whitehorse, Yukon for this premiere, and later gives news from the Alcan highway. Lieutenant Paul Hammond outlines the atmosphere of the film premiere in Whitehorse. Brigadier-General James A. O'Connor outlines the work that the United States armed forces have done towards completion of the Alaska Highway. Lieutenant Paul Hammond describes the history of the Tita Indian tribe. Colonel E.E. Kirkpatrick, United States Corps of Engineers, discusses the difficulties of building a highway on frozen ground. Colonel James V. Johnson, a Whitehorse district engineer extends thanks for the hospitality granted by the people to the forces. Gordon Hamilton, of the Metcalfe-Hamilton Kansas City Bridge Company, by whom the Tita Theatre was presented to the Whitehorse community, describes the not altogether altruistic purpose of their gift. Poet Robert Service greets the men of the new North and remembers his own Northern adventures in years past. He reads his poem, The Yukon Speaks. Robert Service ends the broadcast by extending his desire for a continuing success for the Canadian North and the Yukon in particular. <15mn>
