This series consists of several binders of correspondence and reports kept by the Canadian representatives of the World Crafts Council (W.C.C.). These record a wide variety of the day-to-day administrative activities of the Canadian Section of the W.C.C., such as participation in general assemblies and international exhibitions of the World Crafts Council 1965-1974. Included are files on the 7th biennial meeting of the General Assembly of the World Crafts Council held in Oaxtepec 1976; and delegates' lists, daily bulletins, reports and illustrated pamphlets on exhibitions such as one entitled `Handicrafts in Japan since 1927' and one sponsored by the Kyoto Urushi Artists Association, as well as promotional literature from the American Crafts Council, in connection with the Kyoto, Japan World Crafts Council Assembly 1978; pre-and post-W.C.C. Vienna conference files 1980; and files on the Canadian Crafts Council conference entitled `Tradition in a changing world' held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island 1982. The latter's conference coordinator's file contains a photocopy of an article `The stone medallion of Lake Utopia' by W.F.Ganong, Ph.D., published in Transactions of the Royal Society of Canada 1927.
This series also consists of letters from craftspersons providing information about craft activities and craft associations across Canada for the W.C.C. newsletter; correspondence, agendas, minutes and reports of the W.C.C. meeting held in Paris 1967, the 1968 Conference in Lima, Peru, and the North American Assembly Conference of the W.C.C. 1971. Correspondence binders of Gordon Barnes, Chairman, Canadian Committee 1967-1971 and of James Plaut, Secretary General, W.C.C. 1968-1975, form part of this series. The files also include election ballots and questionnaires regarding the future direction of the W.C.C., and the resumés of various craftspersons 1981. Other files related to meetings held in Montreux, Vermont, Dublin, Malta, Turkey, Vienna, and Vancouver as well as planning files for an exhibition called 'In Praise of Hands,' form part of this series.
