This sub-series contains correspondence, notes, minutes, reports, transcripts of meetings, and reference documents.
This sub-series also includes philatelic documents collected by René J. Marin as an individual, as well as a number of albums and display cases for philatelic documents, photographs, and invitation cards relating to the various activities in which René J. Marin participated as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canada Post Corporation. These activities include: the issues of new postage stamps (including those honouring Jules Léger (1982), Terry Fox (1982), the Constitution of Canada (1982), Canada Day (scenes by Jean Paul Lemieux, 1984), the Pope's visit (1984), Jacques Cartier (joint issue with France, 1984)); the Stampex Canada philatelic exhibition held in Toronto in 1981, and the Canada '82 International Youth Philatelic Exhibition held in Toronto in 1982; and the transfer of philatelic books from the National Library of Canada to the National Postal Museum in 1982. Two folders entitled "L'ère nouvelle commence aujourd'hui" each contain a commemorative Proclamation Day cover on the new Canada Post Corporation created in 1981.
The sub-series also contains a photograph signed by the engraver Claude Haley and 4 prints (numbered 46, 85, 86, 87/200) on Jacques Cartier which include respectively a stamp and a postal marking (1984).
This sub-series also includes documents on René J. Marin's investitures into the Order of Malta, the Order of St. Gregory the Great, and the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy; the Pope's visit in 1984; receptions and ceremonies with the Lieutenant-Governor, ambassadors, and other dignitaries; the exhibition on the war years and Charles Comfort; and the McHappy Day IV community activity held in June 1983.
Persons photographed at the events and ceremonies commemorated in this sub-series include Queen Elizabeth II, Jeanne Sauvé, Pope John Paul II, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, Francis Fox, Marcel Masse, Michael Warren, Guy Syvestre, director of the National Library of Canada, Jean-Pierre Ferland, Guy Lafleur, the clown Ronald McDonald, and national and international postal dignitaries.
As well, this sub-series contains other albums, display cases for philatelic documents, souvenir collections (for example, on the Montréal Olympic Games in 1976, the Calgary Winter Olympic Games in 1988, and the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1984 (joint issue with the United States)), a presentation album of Canadian stamps for the XVIII Congress of the Universal Postal Union in 1979, an album of Vatican stamps and a certificate to René J. Marin to commemorate the Canada '82 International Younth Philatelic Exhibition held in Toronto in 1982 including a souvenir sheet issued on the occasion.
This sub-series alson icludes 12 Christmas cards: 6 of them with a cancelled postage stamp and 6 other with a picture created by Richard Marin.
In addition, this sub-series includes one plaque explaining the seal of Canada Post Corporation and 14 medals (Olympic stamps in precious metal) commemorating the Montréal Olympic Games in 1976 and the Calgary Winter Olympic Games in 1988. These medals are replicas of postage stamps. Lastly, three medals from the Canada '82 International Youth Philatelic Exhibition held in Toronto in 1982 complete this sub-series.
