WilliamsDescription:Luke Oarum collapses in a blizzard while trying to deliver the mail to a small Newfoundland outpost and is rescued by Jed Nelson. Jed considers Mary Joe to be 'his girl' and virtually forces her to say as much though she clearly has feelings for Luke. Jed, a drunkard and a braggart, sets off the join the Viking, a sealing ship under the command of Captain Barker. The captain, proud of his record of never having lost a man, refuses to take Luke, regarding him as a 'jinker' or bringer of bad luck. Jed, reluctant to see Luke left behind with Mary Joe, arranges for him to join the Viking crew. On the icefields Luke and Jed become separated from the rest of the crew and are abandoned. Jed is almost blind, having lost his dark glasses while drunk, and it is Luke who brings him back to safety, finally shaking the label 'jinker' and winning the admiration of all, including, of course, Mary Joe. <71mn 33s>Language:EnglishOriginal number:13-0235~13-0251~13-0252Notes:Detailed holdings information: -
