The series comprises files of policy presentations to government departments on current resolutions and issues, and correspondence between the President of the CFUW and cabinet ministers and senior civil servants. Some of the departments and agencies for which there are files include CIDA, Employment and Immigration, Environment, External Affairs, Finance, Health and Welfare, Heritage, Human Resources Development, Industry Canada, Justice, National Defence, National Library, Prime Minister's Office, Senate, Solicitor General, Status of Women, and Treasury Board. For example, the CFUW lobbied the Department of Justice on the issues of sexual assault and violence against women and lobbied the Department of National Defence on Canadian participation in the 1991 war in the Persian Gulf and permission of low-level flights in Labrador in 1994. Its policy presentation to the federal government as a whole in 1989 addressed issues of the environment (recycling and packaging reform), education (national apprenticeship strategy), health (AIDS education and the ethics of reproductive technologies), defence (research and testing of chemical and biological weapons, and the cultural destruction of the Innu), social issues (extension of parental leave and provision of abortion counselling), and international relations (the annual resolutions of the IFUW).
