Sub-sub-series consists of a segregated chrono(logical) file series of outgoing correspondence and the log register of incoming correspondence. Most of the documents in the chrono files reflect formal replies or initiatives related to opertional matters and often interpreting the application of the Public Service Employment Act or regulations of the Commission to particular staffing transactions or cases as well as more general interpretations of procedures and policy. The series is restricted to only those matters that required direct Deputy Head intervention. Some sub-series of the Chrono series like the Parliamentary Chrono files, are largely made up of pro-forma leters to members of Parliament. However, such sub-series also document instances where intervention by Parliamentarians led to intervention by the Chairperson in particular staffing transactions to ensure a proper executiion of staffing actions. The series, therefore, contains prima facie evidence relevant to the integrity of the administration of the staffing function across government, in particular the role of the Deputy Head and outside interventions in bringing to light errors of administration.

The log books of incoming correspondence serve to demonstrate the scope of activity of the Deputy Head in relation to operational activity and by virtue of the subjectétitle field, it provides evidence of the subjects and activities that generated most client and citizen interaction at the level of the Deputy Head.
