Fonds consists of: amateur pictorial photographs by Grant Gates submitted to salons and monthly competitons of the Hamilton Camera Club; glass plate negatives of the family of Grant Gates; W.B. Gates' country store, Fairground, Ontario; photographs of Grant Gates; two early postcards of local children in Fairground, Ontario; Stelco in 1948 and 1949; fourteen salon prints, mostly of steel-making operations.

Gates, Grant Gordon, 1895-1978 : Grant Gordon Gates (1895-1978), engineer, amateur photographer. Born 1895/07/18 Fairground, Ont. Flourished Hamilton, Ontario, ca. 1920-1978. Joining Stelco in the early 1920's, Gates won salon awards for prints depicting various facets of the steel-making industry, later turning to colour slides and nature photos. Member, Hamilton Camera Club. Associate of Royal Photographic Society (1944). Died 1978/08/14 Hamilton, Ontario.

Works located in: National Archives of Canada; private collections .

Exhibition(s): 1983, Private Realms of Light, PAC, Ottawa, Ont. (group).
