Fonds consists of a sound recording documenting a meeting between Samual J. Drache and the Honorable R.G. Smellie.

Also includes in horizontal storage a Jewish National Fund Survey Map of Land Development: jerusalem Corridor dated 1957.

Corporate Direction International : Corporate Direction International (CDI) was established by Samuel J. Drache, a Winnipeg lawyer, as the channel for his family's business activities. Although the firm was centred in Winnipeg, many of Draches's concerns were national and CDI maintained an office in London, England for some years in the early 1960s. Drache conducted his legal practice in Winnipeg and many of the firms' concerns related to problems of western Canadian business and industrial development, particularly financing of new business and access to remote markets. The two major concerns of CDI were the promotion of an institution to provide venture capital to small and/or new businesses and an effort to rationalize the Potash Industry in Saskatchewan. In both of these fields Samuel Drache did expensive research, corresponded widely and took the initiative to promote public discussion.

Drache, Sam : Samuel Joshua Drache (1906-1996) was an eminent Winnipeg lawyer and community leader. A 1929 graduate of the University of Manitoba Law School, Drache established his first law firm in partnership with Louis Matlin with offices in Winnipeg and Beausejour. He changed partners several times and after 1960 devoted much of his attention to business management. Drache died in 1996. He was survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjory Tadman Drache, his son Arthur Barry C. Drache, four grandchildren including Deborah (Michael Fagen), Ruth (Billy Duncan), Joshua (Sarah Green) and Mordecai, and one great-grandson, Benjamin Martin Drache.
