Hungarian Canadian Engineers' Association : The first informal social gathering of Hungarian Canadian engineers took place in Toronto in March, 1952. In 1953, fifteen members of this discussion group formed the Toronto Hungarian Engineers' Club. A couple of months later the Montreal engineers formed their own organization. Following the 1956 Revolution in Hungary, a considerable number of Hungarian engineers arrived in Canada, increasing the membership of both the Montreal and the Toronto organizations. Representatives of both organizations met in Kingston on the 31st of October, 1959, to establish an umbrella organization under the name Hungarian Canadian Engineers' Association. During the following years new organizations were established in different centres across Canada, which joined the Hungarian Canadian Engineers' Association as branches. In 1962, the Hungarian Canadian Engineers' Association joined the World Federation of Hungarian Engineers and Architects, which presently has its headquarters in Budapest, Hungary.
In addition to professional presentations in which engineers describe their work and the projects in which they became involved, the main activity of the organizations has been fundraising. Thus, the Hungarian St. Stephen's Ball, started by the Montreal Branch in 1959, and the Lorand Eotvos Ball, started by the Toronto Branch in 1961, have become become major Hungarian social events raising money in support of community activities in either city.
The different engineers' associations keep in contact with each other and with their membership through social events and regularly scheduled meetings. At the same time, each organization has its bulletin or newsletter to keep members informed of its activities. Thus, the Hungarian Canadian Engineers' Association of Toronto brings out its monthly Korlevél (Circular). The umbrella organization of Hungarian Canadian engineers periodically brought out its Egyuttmukodés (Cooperation) until 1980. In 1980, the Egyuttmukodés was integrated into the bulletin of the World Federation of Hungarian Engineers and Architects. Published in Budapest, Hungary, the Egyuttmukotés és Tajékoztato (Cooperation and Bulletin) is distributed world-wide to Hungarian engineers and architects.
