Dharma Design & ConsultationSponsor:Environment CanadaDistributor name:Canada. Environment CanadaDescription:This film describes the Automated Shipboard Aerological Program (ASAP), a system used to obtain weather data from the upper atmosphere over ocean areas such as the North Pacific. The program relies on commercial vessels plying the North Pacific Ocean to launch weather balloons equipped with a radiosonde from a computer-equipped sea container. The information gathered is used worldwide in weather forecasting. Launched as a joint effort, the program uses the resources of Environment Canada's Atmospheric Environment Service, the expertise of the National Weather Service of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the technical assistance of the National Centre for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado. <15mn 23s>Language:EnglishOriginal number:106C 0184 599Notes:Detailed holdings information: -
