Part of radio coverage of proceedings of the church service held as a tribute to the late James Shaver Woodsworth, Member of Parliament, founder and leader of the CCF, from the Orfium Theatre in Vancouver. Service opened with the hymn "Onward Christian Soldiers", with an unidentified announcer speaking about: James Shaver Woodsworth, his ideas, as a reformist, as administrator, his grass roots origin; Christian socialism; international brotherhood. Followed by a speech by Mrs. Mildred Farney(?), about: James Shaver Woodsworth, his work, his suffering; brotherhood; Labour Church of Winnipeg; and a prayer by Mrs Mildred Farney(?) formerly read by James Shaver Woodsworth. Followed by hymns and a speech by William Irving, Member of Parliament for Edmonton, about: James Shaver Woodsworth, his political opponents and the press, his qualities, his policies and philosophy; his philosophy becoming reality in the future; as a pacifist, as a realist; international interdependence; his humanitarianism; his relinquishment of the church; hostility of the House of Commons in 1921; his warning about the fallibility of the Versailles Treaty; his courage; as spiritual leader for the future; fear of poverty and war; popular control of the means of production; quotation from the book of Isaiah; supranational democratic government; CCF; immortality of James Shaver Woodsworth.
