Series consists records created and/or maintained by predecessors of the Bureau of Competition Policy, the Combines Investigation Division (part of the Department of Labour from 1910-1945) and the Combines Investigation Branch (part of the Department of Justice from 1945-1967). The series contains correspondence, reports, summonses, newspaper clippings and records of hearings relating to various investigations from 1910-1976. The series includes records relating to investigations into the activities of such organizations as: the United Shoe Machinery Co., the Canadian Plumbing and Heating Guild, the Brass Goods Manufacturers' Council, the Druggists Proprietary Articles Trade Association (P.A.T.A.), the Film Industry, the National Recovery Administration, the Bread Baking and Flour Milling Industry, the insurance industry, and the Canadian Food Board. The records deal with investigations into the sale and production of such items as: paperboard shipping containers, paper dress patterns, metal culverts and related products, electrical wire and cable, rubber products, tires batteries accessories, paperboard shipping containers and related products, fruits and vegetables, tobacco, and optical goods. The sous-fonds also includes files from the 1916 Cost of Living Commission.
