Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan : The Progressive Conservative (PC) Party of Saskatchewan, a political party, emerged in 1912 from the Provincial Rights Party, following the retirement of its leader, Frederick W.A.G. Haultain. The Party retained the name "Conservative Party of Saskatchewan" from its inception till 1942 when it was renamed "The Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan". John Diefenbaker, Alvin Hamilton, Martin Pederson and Dick Collver worked many years to build the grass roots PC Party in Saskatchewan. Due to unsuccessful economic policies and a growing corruption scandal, the party officially withdrew from politics in 1991, voting to abstain from the province's next two general elections. A coalition of former Progressive Conservative Party and Liberal supporters resulted in the establishment of the Saskatchewan Party in 1997.
