Series consists of wartime records created when the Secretary of State assumed the many responsibilities and duties that arose from the needs and activities of the Canadian government during the First and Second World Wars. As the Secretary of State was already responsible for citizenship and naturalization and therefore the activities of aliens in Canada, he fulfilled several functions relating to the Wars such as the custodianship of enemy property and the proper treatment of prisoners of war by the Geneva Convention. The Wartime records series consists of four sub-series: Custodian of Enemy Property and Internment Operations Records; War Charities Records; First World War Records; and Second World War Records sub-series.
