Series includes 2 numbered copies of the 1948 War Book (number 57 and number 66). The Government War Book was created to "show where the responsibility rests for the peacetime planning of emergency measures and, where possible, summarizes the actions to be taken by government departments and agencies in preparation for possible national emergency or on the out break of war". This Book was approved by the Cabinet Defence Committee on 18 October 1948. The Governmental War Book is supplemented by specialized Departmental War Books which explain how measures in the former book could be implemented in the departments. Each department appointed a custodian responsible for maintaining all amendments or updates. The War Book includes information relating to measures to be taken by DND, internal security measures, civil defence, treatment of enemy aliens and property, treatment of information, coordination of transportation, communication, meteorological services, and economic and financial measures. Additional information consists of a list of submissions to be presented to the Privy Council in the event of the War Measures Act being invoked, and a list of submissions to be considered in Privy Council without the War Measures Act.
