The series documents Flora MacDonald's activities, 7 September 1971 - 27 July 1972, as the first woman to attend the National Defence College in Kingston, Ontario.

The record types are: correspondence incoming-outgoing; Canadian Forces Security Education Bulletins; nominal list of course members; literature and program of events of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the National Defence College; course outline; steno pads containing notes taken by Flora MacDonald during the courses; course handbook; field study handbooks; schedules and itineraries of countries visited during field visits; course XXV yearbook; guest speakers essays; course schedule; list of functions held at the Fort Frontenac Officers Mess; and a workshop kit.

This series contains documentation concerning the curriculum of Course XXV, given by the National Defence College. The course in its twenty-fifth year was geared for individuals destined for posts in the civil service, defence department or diplomatic corps, and provided for the joint education of military officers and civilian officials. The course attended by Flora MacDonald was subdivided into four terms: 1) Canadian Studies; 2) External Influences and Factors; 3) Strategic and Military Studies and 4) Final Review and Study of Specific Problems. Field studies were an integral part of the course and included trips to Eastern and Western Canada; Washington, D.C.; New York and the United Nations; Ottawa; The Caribbean, Mediterranean, and third world countries.
