Cineplex Odeon Corporation : Cineplex Odeon Corporation was founded in 1979 as an integrated entertainment company engaged primarily in the exhibition and distribution of motion pictures. The Corporation, based in Toronto, Ontario, opened its first cinema complex at the Eaton Centre in Toronto in 1979. By 1988 the Corporation had grown to become the second largest exhibitor in North America, withmscreens across Canada, in 20 American states, the District of Columbia, and the United Kingdom. In addition, it had a major film processing laboratory and post-production sound facility, owned in partnership with The Rank Organization PLC of the U.K.; a live entertainment division; Canada's largest motion picture studio; and a television production division. Wholly-owned subsidiaries of Cineplex Odeon Corp. include Cineplex Odeon Films, Inc.; Cineplex Odeon Films International, Inc.; Cineplex Odeon Television Inc.; The Film House Group Inc.; and Film House Partnership.
